Using Le Corbusier’s Towards a New Architecture in relation to the historical context and shift which it brought about and comparing that to the shift which is occurring now towards a systematic architecture, somewhat defined by Refabricating Architecture but not thoroughly enough. Case studies begin to define a way of thinking about systems architecturally and present systematic techniques / strategies for design.

Towards a New Architecture:

b_The Aesthetics of the Engineer c_Regulating Lines
d_The Illusions of Plan
ALSO:
- looks to modern technologies in other fields to adapt architecture
- ridding structure of imposed style, instead structure imposes style
- study of materials yeilds spatial freedom, freedom from ground plane, etc.
- proposes systematic design process for all structures regardless of scale or location (both + and -)
Refabricating Architecture:
a_Grand Block, Joint, Whole
b_The Aesthetics of the Process
c_”Quilting” a 2-dimensional logic
d_”Increased Complexity”
Also:
- looks to modern technologies in other fields, adapts them to serve to needs of architecture
- ridding process of imposed constricting construction, instead focuses on assembly process
- study of assembly yeilds freedom to adapt building
-other options left unexplored, (site specificity left to classic architectural language methods, no new language is developed)
Systems Integration:
a_System, Joint, Network
b_The Aesthetics of Performance
c_Systematic Logic
d_Dynamic Space
Also:
-The ability to change/adapt?
-System and process bends/adapts to unique (site specific?) conditions?
-System focuses on use of space and user *in conjunction with* construction, assembly, and site seeking to optimize adaption between all inputs?

OK neight-
Good to see you backtracking (so to speak) to get on top of your issues, but we will talk Monday night. There's not much here that one can sink one's teeth into in a written comment.
FYI: dubai is ahead of you here. Reading today in the NYTimes, there are underwater hotels 80' down, underwater restaurants and spas. Not exactly your philosophic underlayment, I am quite sure, and I shudder to imagine the imagery. But, point remains, oil money (ironically) is already doing this, and for the worst, most touristy of reasons. Maybe you should keep the tourist program function out- they can have more mindless fun for their money if they fly to Dubai. jp
